Located in the breathtaking Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Whistler is considered to be one of North America’s premier, year-round destinations. It has been ranked and voted the number one resort areas year after year. While many think of this picturesque region as one of the best ski destinations because of the abundance of different slopes and a very long ski season which lasts from November to August (practically the whole year!), Whistler has so much more to offer: two amazing mountains, four championship golf courses, beautiful nature, world-famous mountain bike park, hiking trails for novices and advanced hikers, dining & shopping. And did we mention a vibrant arts & culture community that organizes many unique and fun festivals and events?
Whistler’s history has humble origins: while the Coast Salish First Nations dwelled in area for thousands of years, it did not become a visitor attraction until the early 1950s. Interestingly, initially it was considered a great summer vacation residence due to the abundance of fish stocks in nearby lakes and lushness of its flora (by the way, August is the best time to catch a variety of alpine plants blossoming- a truly spell-bounding sight). The area supposedly acquired its name because of a whistling sound that western hoary marmots produce. Our guess is that there were a lot of marmots living among the rocks! Whistler officially opened for skiing only in 1966.
These days, abundance of summer and winter activities makes the region a great romantic destination for young and old. Rent a chalet (which is very similar to the Alpine type) and enjoy romantic dinner or simply a bottle of wine at a fireplace, cuddling up to each other and feeling the fullness and beauty of your honeymoon vacation. Choose one of the plentiful runs that reflect every level of skill, but bear in mind that lots of runs (over 100) are reachable by helicopter only!
After skiing to your heart’s content, you can stop at one of many coffee shops and bistros to boost your energy or to warm up. Or sit back in a restaurant sipping your favorite drink and enjoy having a romantic meal with your beloved. There are many award-winning restaurants and chefs that serve multinational cuisine that is often prepared from locally and organically grown ingredients.
Besides being one of the leading ski resorts, Whistler is a home of one of the top Canadian… golf course place! That’s right – professional championship courses await you; for those who are not familiar with the game or want to hone their skills, there are course offered that will help you to master the skills.
Finally, you will definitely like your honeymoon vacation on this almost 5000 ft high mountain with its special charm and unforgettable sceneries. This honeymoon destination will leave only best memories and marvelous pictures!
